The Field has estimated recoverable resources of up to 1 billion barrels.

According to the London-based metalsconsulting company, CRU, Ghana improved its position to become the seventh leading producer of gold in the world, based on the 2011 output of approximately 3,118,000 ounces. Gold accounts for about 90 per cent of all mineral receipts.

The 6.8 per cent GDP growth recorded by the economy was in no small measure on account of the impressive performance of the mining industry in terms of fiscal contributions to the state. According to the Gold Fields Mineral Survey, Ghana was the eighth leading producer of gold in the World as output increased by 2 per cent to 92 tonnes. This was an improvement on the ninth position it attained in 2009.
